Eat In Tax at McDonalds WTF???
Since it won’t stop raining here in Southern California I brought the kids to the McDonalds in Burbank yesterday to burn off some energy in the play land. We ordered a couple happy meals with the incredibly shrinking cheeseburgers and I ordered a meal. While the kids were traveling through the miles of urine scented plastic caves I looked down at the receipt, to my surprise there was a one dollar “Eat in tax”. I have never noticed that before, I usually don’t study the receipts at McDicks but come on. Was there a VIP section with leather furniture that I somehow overlooked? Does McDonald’s charge this everywhere? I guess next time I will order it to go and bring the bags into the playland.

According to a few sources online its just a missing line break between two separate pieces of information… its just the sales tax added to the order and the line tells them whether to put your food in a tray or in a bag to go.

Dude, that’s your sales tax. Why it’s “eat in” I have no idea.

Yeah, Scott, that is just your sales tax. Restaurants with a dining room charge this if you eat in. Otherwise it is not charged.

That’s the law in LA. If you order food to go – no slaes tax because it is a grocery. Eat in and there is tax, because it is a restaurant entertainment. The most ironic is if you eat in at a grocery store.
But rule of thumb – always say “to go” at Starbucks, MC D, etc to avoid sales tax. If you change your mind after the fact and return to the scene of the crime for a “picnic” that’s between you and the city of LA

Whether or not it’s your sales tax and just missing a line break, it’s hilarious! Kind of reminds me of my friend’s mail-in rebate experience.

I just had this happen to me today. . . . . $0.38 to “eat in” at McD’s. . . . . I noticed because my meal was a different price than usual so I asked. They told me that since I am using their facilities, there is an extra tax. I told them it was dumb and asked her to make it to go and give me my 38 cents back. What a rip off!!!!

Eat in and eat out taxes are being charged at the Wasilla, AK McD’s. Alaska does not have sales tax.

This is just the sales tax with new wording.
You’ll notice it equates your regional sales tax. That’s it. All it is. Conspiracy over.
